Hormones reported: Estradiol (E2), Testosterone, DHEAs, Estrone (E1) [About]
Fasting Required: Yes – 10 to 12 hours. We recommend performing this test 30 minutes from awakening due to fasting requirements.
Why use this test? In older women, this test can help assess hormone levels during and after menopause. After menopause, the ovaries stop producing estradiol and the other reproductive are also much reduced. Low estradiol is linked with weight gain especially in the middle area, increasing the risk of metabolic and cardiovascular disease.
More: Left unchecked estrogen deficiency can lead to bone loss and increased risk of fracture (osteoporosis). Estrogen is also thought to be neuroprotective and low levels due to menopause may affect cognitive function and increase the risk of dementia. Testosterone and DHEAs decline in menopause is linked to reduced libido and sexual function. Women who are being treated with menopause replacement therapy (MRT, aka HRT) may use this test to monitor their hormone levels in response to treatment.

No, it is not necessary to stop taking your supplements.
The laboratory will not compromise themselves by testing saliva that is past its used by (too viscous). Their only concern is the accuracy of the results and the integrity of the laboratory. So when a sample turns up that has been delayed by Australia Post, and it isn't fit for testing, they have no hesitation in rejecting it, and we start the process over (at no cost to you).
More: The official position of saliva travel time is that saliva samples are good for (up to) 12 days, Despite the guidelines, each sample is assessed for suitability upon arrival prior to testing.
Testing can occur at any time of month. If using topical (applied to the skin) HRT or supplementation, saliva testing should not occur on the same day as this may give false results.
Yes, blood in the saliva, visible to the eye, will contaminate the sample and void the result. Check first by rinsing the mouth with fresh water and swilling into sink whilst observing for signs of blood in your saliva. Following this, wait 10 minutes and then provide your sample. If you have already used the tube, and now see blood within the saliva, it’s OK. Rinse the tube thoroughly in warm water (only), then place the tube on its side on a fresh paper towel. Wait a good 20 Minutes for it to dry before re using.
