Male Aging Profile Test
Tests Included: Estradiol E2, Cortisol, Testosterone, Estrone E1, DHEAs.
Overview: Levels of estradiol, testosterone, and DHEA-S typically lower as a man ages, whereas high cortisol levels can hasten symptoms associated with aging. [Edit: In some men estrogen levels fall with age, but in others they actually increase]. The role of estrone in men has only recently been acknowledged as underappreciated. Elevated estrone level is now known to be commonly associated with both incidental and existing diabetes in older men, as it is in women (I). Good balance in these four hormones can make a man feel more youthful.
Why use this test? You want to be sure these important hormones are behaving correctly. The results can be compared to the age range reference chart supplied. If imbalance is detected, you can take these results to your doctor for discussion. Slight irregularity can often be addressed by changes to lifestyle and diet. (Age range reference chart included with your results.)
Fasting Required: Yes – 10 to 12 hours, (overnight). As the hormones being tested are most active in the morning, we recommend performing the test 30 minutes from awakening. Instructions provided with all test kits.

The laboratory will not compromise themselves by testing saliva that is past its used by (too viscous). Their only concern is the accuracy of the results and the integrity of the laboratory. So when a sample turns up that has been delayed by Australia Post, and it isn't fit for testing, they have no hesitation in rejecting it, and we start the process over (at no cost to you).
More: The official position of saliva travel time is that saliva samples are good for (up to) 12 days, Despite the guidelines, each sample is assessed for suitability upon arrival prior to testing.

Oh no not today. I'm sorry if you had that impression. The sample is now safely in a controlled environment and testing has commenced. This is a rigid process that does have many steps. There are approximately 12 people working in that process using equipment worth many millions of dollars. It's very technical, and I won't pretend to understand it but this process takes approximately 6 - 10 days depending on how many hormones are being tested, and if melatonin is one of them (takes longer).
Another thing, and I hope I am not boring you here, is that any abnormal result will undergo retesting for the sake of accuracy. This adds a couple of days if required.
The only good news here is that the laboratory we use is obsessed with accuracy, and they don't give a toss' about wait time. We are the ones that stress out about that :-). We want our clients to get results as fast as possible and with this laboratory, we don't have to worry about the quality or integrity of the test, which is the most important thing at the end of the day.
So let's keep our fingers crossed you get these by the end of next week, I'll be keeping watch..
Hope that helps explain things and if there is anything else I'm here to assist.
Kind regards, Michelle
